A passenger was restrained with duct tape and zip ties by fellow travelers and crew members after a violent outburst aboard an American Airlines flight, during which he hurled racist and homophobic insults and physically assaulted another passenger, according to a report obtained by the JMH Consortium.

The incident occurred Thursday night on American Airlines Flight 618, which was traveling from Dallas to Newark. At around 10:15 p.m., the passenger began insulting and threatening his seatmate before physically attacking him and destroying his computer.

A flight attendant intervened to contain the situation, but the passenger responded with racist insults, including a derogatory term directed at Black people, as well as homophobic remarks.

A female passenger attempted to intervene to help the man sitting next to the aggressor but was pushed away.

Three other passengers subsequently intervened and, together with crew members, managed to restrain the man using duct tape and zip ties. Images released after the incident show the passenger restrained in his seat, with his hands, head and torso secured.

For safety reasons, the flight was diverted to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport because of the "disruptive passenger."

Upon landing, law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft and assisted in removing the passenger before the flight continued to Newark, the company said.

An FBI spokesperson said the man was arrested by the Maryland Transportation Police.

着陸後、法執行機関が機内に入り、乗客の降機を支援。その後、航空機はニューアークに向けて運航を続けたと、航空会社は説明した。

FBIの報道官によると、この男性はメリーランド州交通警察に逮捕された。
