Un héroe anónimo evitó una tragedia mayor en el tiroteo del In-N-Out Burger de Idaho.

Un ciudadano armado con una pistola enfrentó al atacante de un tiroteo registrado en un restaurante In-N-Out de Twin Falls, Idaho, y su intervención contribuyó a evitar un número mayor de víctimas, según testigos y la policía.

Dos personas murieron y siete resultaron heridas. Las autoridades informaron que el presunto atacante falleció en el lugar y consideran que pudo haberse quitado la vida. La investigación continúa.

Lane Koehn, de 34 años, quien grabó parte del incidente desde su automóvil, declaró al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH que la reacción del ciudadano armado permitió distraer al atacante durante los momentos críticos del ataque, facilitando la evacuación de clientes y empleados del concurrido restaurante.

Koehn señaló que se encontraba detenido en un semáforo cercano cuando observó a un hombre con un rifle tipo AR-15 salir de la zona de servicio para vehículos (drive-thru), instantes antes de que otro hombre respondiera con disparos utilizando una pistola.

Posteriormente, dijo haber visto a una empleada de In-N-Out con una herida de bala en el pecho siendo auxiliada y trasladada por otro trabajador a través del estacionamiento.

Según su testimonio, permaneció junto al ciudadano armado y al empleado asistiendo a la trabajadora herida hasta la llegada de los servicios de emergencia.

"Estaba muy grave. Espero que haya sobrevivido", declaró Koehn al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH.

Las autoridades no han divulgado la identidad ni el presunto motivo del atacante. Tampoco ha sido identificada públicamente la persona armada que intervino durante el ataque.

An armed civilian carrying a handgun confronted the gunman during a shooting at an In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, helping prevent a higher death toll, according to witnesses and police.

Footage from the scene shows the civilian exchanging gunfire with the attacker, who was armed with an AR-15-style rifle, outside the restaurant.

Two people were killed and seven others were injured. Police said the suspected gunman died at the scene and believe he may have taken his own life. The investigation remains ongoing.

Lane Koehn, 34, who recorded part of the incident from his vehicle, told the JMH International Consortium of Journalists that the armed civilian's actions distracted the attacker long enough for customers and employees to flee the busy restaurant.

Koehn said he was stopped at a nearby traffic light when he saw a man carrying an AR-15-style rifle emerge from the drive-thru area, moments before a second man opened fire with a handgun.

He later saw an In-N-Out employee suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest being pulled across the parking lot by another employee.

Koehn said he remained alongside the armed civilian and the employee, assisting the wounded worker until emergency medical personnel arrived.

"He was in very bad shape. I hope she survived," Koehn told the JMH International Consortium of Journalists.

Authorities have not released the identity or the suspected motive of the deceased gunman. The identity of the armed civilian who intervened has also not been made public.
