España afronta una grave emergencia por incendios forestales fuera de control que afectan a las comunidades de Madrid y Castilla y León, donde decenas de miles de personas han sido evacuadas o confinadas mientras los equipos de emergencia luchan por contener el avance de las llamas.

Spain is facing a major wildfire emergency as out-of-control fires continue to spread across the Madrid region and Castilla y León, forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate or remain confined while emergency crews struggle to contain the advancing flames.

En Castilla y León permanecen activos nueve incendios, con órdenes de evacuación en tres localidades y confinamientos en dos municipios de la provincia de Ávila. Más de 8.000 personas han sido evacuadas y otras 5.000 permanecen confinadas.

En la Comunidad de Madrid, tres grandes incendios se unificaron este mediodía en un único frente, complicando significativamente las tareas de extinción. El fuego ha obligado a evacuar ocho municipios y a confinar otros tres, elevando a unas 50.000 las personas afectadas en la región.

Entre ambas comunidades, las autoridades estiman que unas 63.000 personas se encuentran evacuadas o confinadas y que alrededor de 15.000 hectáreas han resultado calcinadas. "No descartamos que en las próximas horas tenga que crecer esta cifra", declaró durante la tarde el delegado del Gobierno en Madrid, Francisco Martín. Su homólogo en Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, expresó además su preocupación por la posibilidad de que los incendios de ambas regiones lleguen a fusionarse, una situación para la que, afirmó, "queda muy poquito".

El Gobierno español declaró este jueves la emergencia nacional en ambas comunidades autónomas tras la solicitud presentada por la presidenta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Los incendios en Madrid continúan sin estar perimetrados ni controlados y las autoridades mantienen la preocupación por la evolución del fuego durante la noche.

El consejero madrileño de Medio Ambiente, Carlos Novillo, dijo al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH que el incendio que afecta al suroeste de la región se encontraba en su "momento álgido" y había superado la "capacidad de extinción".

En Castilla y León, las autoridades siguen especialmente atentas al incendio de Burgohondo, cuyo avance lo ha aproximado a la Comunidad de Madrid con el paso de las horas.

Ante la magnitud de la emergencia, España solicitó este viernes a la Unión Europea la activación del Mecanismo Europeo de Protección Civil. La Comisión Europea movilizó cuatro aviones anfibios Canadair —dos procedentes de Grecia y dos de Italia— para reforzar las labores de extinción, con llegada prevista a la península el sábado.

Spain is facing a major wildfire emergency as out-of-control fires continue to spread across the Madrid region and Castilla y León, forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate or remain confined while emergency crews struggle to contain the advancing flames.

Nine wildfires remain active in Castilla y León, with evacuation orders in three localities and stay-at-home orders in two municipalities in the province of Ávila. More than 8,000 residents have been evacuated and another 5,000 remain confined.

In the Madrid region, three major wildfires merged into a single fire front at midday, significantly complicating firefighting operations. The blazes have forced the evacuation of eight municipalities and the confinement of three others, affecting about 50,000 people.

Across the two regions, authorities estimate that about 63,000 people have either been evacuated or confined, while approximately 15,000 hectares (37,000 acres) have been burned.

"We cannot rule out that this figure will increase in the coming hours," Madrid's central government representative, Francisco Martín, said on Friday afternoon. His counterpart in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, expressed concern that the fires in the two regions could eventually merge, saying that such a scenario was "very close."

The Spanish government on Thursday declared a national emergency in both regions after Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso requested the measure. Authorities have yet to establish a containment perimeter around the Madrid fires, which continue to spread, raising concerns about their overnight progression.

Madrid's regional Environment Minister, Carlos Novillo, told the JMH International Consortium of Journalists that the wildfire affecting the southwest of the region had reached its "most critical stage" and was already "beyond firefighting capacity."

In neighboring Castilla y León, authorities remain particularly concerned about the Burgohondo wildfire, which has advanced closer to the Madrid region throughout the day.

In response to the escalating crisis, Spain requested the activation of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The European Commission has deployed four Canadair water-bombing aircraft—two from Greece and two from Italy—to assist firefighting efforts. The aircraft are expected to arrive in Spain on Saturday.
