Fuentes vinculadas a la Guardia Civil confirmaron que el peor incendio forestal registrado en la historia de España se originó hace unas horas en Burgohondo, Ávila, tras el uso no autorizado de una maquinaria conocida como “El Perejil”. Según las mismas fuentes, una pala de la máquina golpeó el suelo y provocó chispas que habrían iniciado el fuego.

Sources linked to Spain’s Civil Guard confirmed that the worst forest fire in the country’s history began hours ago in Burgohondo, Ávila, following the unauthorized use of machinery known as “El Perejil.” According to the same sources, a machine blade struck the ground and produced sparks that are believed to have started the fire.

El Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (SEPRONA) de la Guardia Civil detuvo al hombre que conducía la máquina por un presunto delito de incendio forestal y daños ambientales. Una segunda persona también fue detenida.

El incendio, considerado el peor de la historia de España por su magnitud, ha afectado hasta el momento unas 80.000 hectáreas, equivalentes aproximadamente al 10% de la superficie de la provincia de Ávila, cuya extensión total ronda las 800.000 hectáreas. El fuego también ha afectado miles de hectáreas en la Comunidad de Madrid y ha obligado a evacuar a unas 100.000 personas.

Al momento de redactarse este informe, el incendio todavía no había sido extinguido por completo.

Sources linked to Spain’s Civil Guard confirmed that the worst forest fire in the country’s history began hours ago in Burgohondo, Ávila, following the unauthorized use of machinery known as “El Perejil.” According to the same sources, a machine blade struck the ground and produced sparks that are believed to have started the fire.

The Civil Guard’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) detained the man operating the machinery on suspicion of causing a forest fire and environmental damage. A second person was also detained.

The fire, considered the worst in Spain’s history because of its scale, has so far affected around 80,000 hectares, equivalent to approximately 10% of the total area of Ávila province, which covers roughly 800,000 hectares. Thousands of hectares in the Madrid region have also been affected, and around 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate.

At the time this report was being written, the fire had not yet been fully extinguished.
